Dating apps only work if you trust the people you meet there. Here is exactly what we do to keep Pop or Keep safe, and what you can do to protect yourself.
What we do
At signup
- Email verification. Every account is tied to an email address that works. Throwaway inboxes are refused.
- 18 or older only. Submitting a false date of birth is grounds for permanent removal.
- Photo moderation. Every photo is scanned by AWS Rekognition before it is visible to anyone else. Nudity, violence, and suggestive content are rejected automatically.
- CSAM detection. Photos are hashed and checked against denylists maintained by registered child-safety providers. Matches are disabled and reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children under 18 U.S.C. § 2258A.
In the app
- Two-tap report from any chat. Six categories: harassment, impersonation, underage, scam, nudity, other.
- Auto-suspend after reports from 3 distinct users in a rolling 30 days. Underage reports suspend on first receipt.
- Mutual block. Blocking someone removes them from your feed and closes any open match. They can't see you, you can't see them.
- No endless swipe. One profile, one decision. The pace is deliberate, not addictive.
Response times
- Under 1 hour: CSAM, imminent-harm, and underage reports.
- Under 24 hours: harassment, impersonation, scams.
- Under 72 hours: nudity and catch-all reports.
What you can do
- Meet in public. First date in a place with other people and good lighting.
- Tell a friend. Share your location and who you're meeting.
- Trust your instincts. If something feels off (pressure to move to another app, unwilling to video call, asking for money), it is off. Back out.
- Don't send money. Ever. Not for a flight, not for an emergency, not for a "crypto tip."
- Report and block. Using both tools is how we keep the community clean.
If something serious happens
- In danger now: call your local emergency number. 112 works across Europe and in many other countries; 911 in the U.S. and Canada, 999 in the U.K., 000 in Australia.
- Sexual assault or crisis: find a free, confidential helpline in your country at findahelpline.com. In the U.S., RAINN: 1-800-656-HOPE (4673).
- A child at risk: report to your country's hotline through inhope.org. In the U.S., NCMEC CyberTipline: 1-800-843-5678 or report.cybertip.org.
- Account compromise: email security@poporkeep.com.
Transparency
We will publish a safety report twice a year covering the number of reports received, accounts actioned, CSAM escalations, and law-enforcement requests, starting six months after launch.
